🎮 Which Century?

The rule finds the century, not a guess

📖 About this game

A game about finding the century of a year, from the lesson on historical terms in the History unit. The rule comes from the book itself: a century is a hundred years, and it is found by adding 1 to the hundreds and thousands place, and by adding nothing at all when the last two places are zeros. Why this lesson in particular: because its answer is computed, never memorised. The number, the rule and the options all come out of the year itself, so what is written can never contradict what is drawn. The first distractor is the expected mistake word for word, forgetting to add the one, so 680 is answered as the sixth century instead of the seventh. The exception comes back in four rounds out of ten, because what appears once is never learned and what appears too often stops being an exception. The working appears step by step after every answer, so what stays after the game is the rule and not the answer. No sign-up.

🕹️ How to play

  1. Look at the year and at its hundreds place.
  2. Ask: does it end in two zeros? If it does, add nothing; if not, add one.
  3. Tap the right century out of the four.
  4. Every year you get first try counts for you.
