🎮 Multiplication Patterns

The zeros in a factor carry through to the product

📖 About this game

A game about patterns in multiplication, the first lesson in the multiplication chapter. The basic fact is printed above the question, and the question then asks for the same factor once zeros have been added. The fact is printed rather than hidden because the lesson is not memorising the times table but seeing the pattern: the zeros in a factor carry through to the product, and hiding the fact would turn this into a multiplication test rather than a pattern test. The distractors are the same product with a zero fewer, a zero more, and none at all, because the expected mistake is counting the zeros rather than the multiplying. Twelve questions. No sign-up.

🕹️ How to play

  1. Read the basic fact in the dashed frame.
  2. Count the zeros in the larger factor.
  3. Add that many zeros to the basic product.
  4. Every question you get first try counts for you.
