🎮 Kinds of Vegetable

Every vegetable is part of a plant — which part?

📖 About this game

A game about sorting vegetables, the first activity in the vegetables lesson. The seven kinds are the ones the book names: leafy, fruit, pod, bulb, tuber, root and flower. A vegetable appears with its picture and its name, the child chooses its kind, and the edible part of the plant is then shown as the proof. The edible part is hidden in the question because it is the answer itself, and the picture is a symbol rather than a classification: a picture of a carrot says it is a carrot, not that it is a root. Root and tuber sit in the same game because a carrot is a root and a potato is a swollen stem, and to a child both are simply under the ground — that is the confusion this measures. Seven rounds, one kind each. No sign-up.

🕹️ How to play

  1. Look at the vegetable and read its name.
  2. Ask yourself which part of the plant we eat: a leaf, a fruit, a root?
  3. Tap the name of the kind from the seven.
  4. Every vegetable you get first try counts for you.
