🎮 ow — One Spelling, Two Sounds

snow or cow? Nothing in the spelling shows it — the ear is the judge

📖 About this game

A game built on the Phonics page of Unit 2, where the book puts the two sounds side by side on purpose: goat and snow, then house, mouse, cow and brown. The idea is one spelling and two sounds: the ow in snow is a long closed sound while the ow in cow is open, and no spelling rule separates them, so the ear alone is the judge. That is why the game is built on listening rather than reading, and why the word is shown in full — nothing in the spelling could give it away. No sign-up.

🕹️ How to play

  1. Listen to the word, with its ow highlighted inside it.
  2. Ask yourself: does it sound like snow, or like cow?
  3. Drop the word into the basket that fits.
  4. Every word you get first try counts for you.
