🎮 Which Step Am I In?

The four steps of problem solving

📖 About this game

A game on the four-step problem solving lesson in the algebra and functions chapter, whose text says that solving a problem in mathematics rests on four steps: understand, plan, solve and check. The items in the game are the book own items rather than a derivation of them: what are the facts, what is being asked and are the facts enough belong to understand; choose a strategy and estimate the answer belong to plan; carry out your plan and what is the solution belong to solve; does your answer fit the facts and is your answer reasonable compared with your estimate belong to check. Why baskets rather than buttons: all four steps stand on screen every round, and carrying an item to its place keeps the whole road in view, which is exactly the point of the lesson. Why the baskets are never shuffled: the order of the steps is half the lesson, and a learner who solves before planning has learned nothing even when right, so the baskets keep their order always and a numbered ladder appears at every reveal to fix that order by repetition. The distractor here is the confusion that really happens: estimate the answer is planning while is your answer reasonable compared with your estimate is checking, and the difference is that one comes before the solution and the other after it, which is the lesson itself. Twelve rounds. No sign-up.
